چکیده

Phenol inhibits the Hill reaction with several Hill oxidants and the accompanying non-cyclic phosphorylation. It inhibits also pseudocyclic and cyclic phosphorylation. Partial reactions which are dependent on cyclic electron flow are inhibited too, but electron flow from ascorbate via dichlorophenolindophenol to TPN is not. The activity of various benzene and phenol derivatives was compared. It is concluded that the inhibition is a result of interfering with an electron carrier which participates in cyclic and non-cyclic electron flow.

Inhibition of chloroplast electron transport reactions by trifluralin and diallate.

The herbicides trifluralin (alpha,alpha,alpha-trifluoro-2,6-dinitro-N, N-dipropyl-p-toluidine) and diallate (S-[2,3-dichloroallyl] diisopropylthiocarbamate) inhibit electron transport, ATP synthesis, and cytochrome f reduction by isolated spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) chloroplasts. Both compounds inhibit noncyclic electron transport from H(2)O to ferricyanide more than 90% in coupled chloropla...

Effects of disalicylidenepropanediamines on photosynthetic electron transport of isolated spinach chloroplasts.

The effects of disalicylidenepropanediamine (DSPD) and disulfo-disalicylidenepropanediamine (sulfo-DSPD) on the photosynthetic electron transport of isolated chloroplasts have been reexamined. Our data suggest that DSPD, but not sulfo-DSPD, is an effective inhibitor of electron transport between photosystem II and photosystem I before or at plastocyanin. Furthermore, both DSPD and sulfo-DSPD blo...

Site of Action of 2,5-Dimethoxy-3,6-Dichloro-/?-Benzoquinone in the Photosynthetic Electron Transport Chain

Dichlorodimethoxy-/?-benzoquinone (DCDMQ) was tested for its site of action in the photo synthetic electron transport chain. Hill reaction mediated by DCDMQ was insensitive to DBMIB (1 nm) but sensitive to DCMU, suggesting its site of action before plastoquinone but after Q the primary electron acceptor of photosystem II. Extraction of freeze-dried chloroplasts with heptane and analyzing their...

Site-specific inhibition of photophosphorylation in isolated spinach chloroplasts by HgCL2. II. Evidence for three sites of energy conservation associated with non-cyclic electron transport.

Energy transfer inhibition by HgCl2 has been demonstrated to be selective for certain System I partial reactions. On the basis of different HgCl2 effects on the System I reactions, reduced 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol --> methylviologen, diaminodurene --> methylviologen and N-phenazine methosulfate cyclic, two sites of energy conservation associated with System I are proposed. Furthermore, thes...
